Al-Ayn Social Care Foundation is an independent humanitarian organization with a 501 (C) (3) (EIN: 47-1614315 ) status and has been awarded consultative status by the UN as a humanitarian NGO. It is primarily aimed at providing for the needs of orphans in Iraq. Due to the devastating consequences of terrorist attacks within the country beginning 2003, many children have been left orphaned and families have been left devastated. Al-Ayn Social Care Foundation was established in Iraq in 2006, to support and sponsor these orphans, and provide care for them in all aspects of their needs. Al-Ayn in the U.S.A. was registered as a non profit in 2014, to work in collaboration with Al-Ayn (Iraq).

As of April 2016, around 32,802 orphans have been sponsored with the addition of many more orphans that have been registered with foundation.
In additional to monthly financial allowances, the orphans receive medical care, educational support, psychological rehabilitation, recreational activities, and other programs tailored to their needs.
Al-Ayn was set up under the guidance of Ayatollah Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Hussaini Al-Sistani (ha) and continues to receive his blessings and authorization to receive religious dues to spend on the orphans.

Since its establishment, Al-Ayn has enjoyed the support and blessings of the Supreme Religious Authority Grand Ayatollah Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Hussaini Al-Sistani (may God prolong his life). The Foundation submitted the following request to the Supreme Religious Authority:authorization-letter

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

“And say: “Work (righteousness): Soon will Allah observe your work, and His Messenger, and the Believers”

Respected Supreme Religious Authority Grand Ayatollah Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Hussaini Al-Sistani (may Allah prolong his life),

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatoh,

Our Foundation is honoured to express its thanks and great appreciation to your eminence for your continued support for the Foundation, throughout the period of its work, with your blessings and authorisation to collect religious dues and to spend them on the orphans of the believers. This authorisation has been since 6 Safar 1428AH, and was extended again on 25 Safar 1430AH, and then on 10 Safar 1433AH, under the supervision of his eminence Sheikh Amjad Riyadh (may Allah continue his support).

We would like to inform your eminence that the Foundation is still operating to sponsor and care for the orphans of the martyrs who fell victim to acts of terrorism in all areas that were affected by this indiscriminate terror, which has taken away their fathers, brothers, and sons. We began the effort in the capital Baghdad and then expanded to other provinces such as Mosul, Diyala, Kirkuk, and Saladin, where we documented and cared for thousands of children orphaned due to the terrorist activities. With the conviction of a number of individuals dedicated to the social care and service of the orphans, the work of the Foundation expanded to the southern provinces of Iraq to care for the orphans whose fathers were martyred in terrorist attacks, in addition to those who fathers died from natural causes.

The number of orphans sponsored by the Foundation has increased in the thousands, and it continues to rise. The Foundation continues to document and care for orphans of terrorist attacks wherever it can. It has also started caring for the orphans of the national volunteers who answered your call and sacrificed themselves, taking lessons from the school of Imam Hussain (as) in refusing humiliation and oppression. The Foundation also started supporting the needy and displaced. This is how the seed that you planted and watered has grown to a sapling that is still growing with your continued blessings and efforts.

Our Grand Sayyid, the expenses of the Foundation have therefore increased, in light of the above, and due to the Foundation’s constant efforts to improve the standard of sponsorship provided to the orphans, the needy and the displaced, to the best standard possible, to provide medical, educational, and recreational services, in addition to providing financial and in-kind assistance. This has increased the burden on the Foundation due to the increased number of orphans documented and sponsored by it, and the expansion of its work to include the needy and displaced.

From this perspective, we submit this request to extend the period of authorisation for this work since the period of the previous authorisation has elapsed, so the believers from inside and outside of Iraq can contribute to the expenses of caring for orphans and supporting the needy and displaced, through the following:

  1. Religious dues, including both Sahm al-Imam and Sahm al-Sada.
  2. Donations collected in specified boxes which are considered received Sadaqa as per your authorisation.
  3. Continual charity (sadaqa jariya), and the one-third of the inheritance of the deceased, all of which is used to construct buildings as waqf under the custodianship of the supreme religious authority, and the profits of which go to the orphans.
  4. Other general donations and in-kind assistance such as clothes and food.
  5. Zakat and Kaffaras.
  6. Supporting the work of the Foundation (Purchasing donation boxes, costs of field-visits to follow-up, rental costs of branch premises, costs of publications, purchasing equipment needed for the work of the Foundation, and all that benefits the work of the Foundation)

All this will assist the Foundation in its purposes, keeping in mind that we continue to work under the direct supervision of his eminence Sheikh Amjad Riyadh (may Allah continue his support), who was appointed and authorised by your eminence, in line with article 15 of our constitution. We take all measures necessary to ensure that all dues reach those who deserve it.

We also ask your eminence to continue your blessings and prayer for our work. May the peace and blessings of Allah be with you.
